It was a misty start as we set off for the meeting place in Tilford for the start of the rally. The organised route was the same as last year but no less enjoyable as we drove in sunshine through pretty Hampshire villages on the 30 mile journey to Alton.
The atmosphere in the town was great, lots of people, the cars of course, a jazz band playing and craft stalls lining the streets. All in all a good end to the season as this was the last event on our 'Summer Calendar'.

Three cars from Hampshire met up at the Wheatsheaf in Bramley and were first to arrive at the show; just in time to secure out pitch and fight off an invasion of American Muscle cars. We were shortly joined by Jonathon and Alison plus cars from Surrey, Kent and Sussex and several nonmembers who asked if they could also park up, making a total of approx. 21 cars and with four flags flying it looked a very impressive turnout. Masses of cars (1,700 classics according to the
blurb) a good autojumble and other stalls, plus the chance for a good natter, made it an all round great day.

John & Vic, Ian & Gloria along with Barry & Jenny left Terry & Harriet at Silverstone to continue the search for Ken and Marion (there is a pattern emerging here – can anyone suggest a suitable tracking device?) and headed off to find dinner and overnight accommodation at the Premier Inn at Willen Lake
on the outskirts of Milton Keynes. Thoroughly recommended (other hotel chains are available).
We were just heading off to bed when who should turn up but Ken & Marion!! After a good breakfast we head off to join the Home Counties at a show in the grounds of the Chiltern Open-Air Museum. And a really enjoyable day it was – probably one of the best shows this year. Lots of interesting things to see and do; friendly atmosphere, great weather, and of course the good company we have come to expect from our friends in the Home Counties, creep, creep. (Not in any way to be confused with angling for an invite to their Christmas Dinner again this year)
Quote of the Day – “Oh Barry, you've broken your bottom and it’s starting to drip”– thanks John

When John (our events man) noticed in the MG Owners Club Magazine that their Winchester group occasionally play skittles at the Cart & Horses in Kingsworthy he decided to contact them and see if they would like to join up for a contest. As a result eight intrepid skittlers from Hampshire joined them for their October meeting and skittle night.
We were just ‘pipped at the post’ in the team event, losing by just four points with a score of 130 to 126 however the prize of a large tin of sweets was generously shared between everyone and quickly devoured. The second round was an individual ‘last man standing’ event which again was won by a Winchester player although Mike did get the highest individual score. The job of returning balls and setting up the skittles was a good aerobics workout and shared between the more energetic members of both teams.
We had such a good time that Harriet is organising a similar event with the Morris Minor Club on the 12th January.
